Build for a Better World

Block COVID is a month-long virtual open innovation camp to activate anyone anywhere to build COVID-19 solutions on the blockchain and more.  By providing a collaboration platform, mentorship, subject-matter expertise, and technical support, we aim to inspire and catalyze implementable products to address societal challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic by the end of the month.

Global Virtual Open Innovation Camp

Block COVID will provide an opportunity for you to:
Learn new tools to ideate, design, build, and implement innovative solutions, such as creating service design frameworks and shipping blockchain applications
Hear from thought leaders across diverse industries and put their top tips into practice
Connect with other developers, designers, entrepreneurs, students, industry experts, and more!
Make a difference in the world!

Missions

How might we leverage data and technology to prevent, track, and treat infections?

Join us for presentations and workshops by some of the best and brightest in the technology, design, and social impact community.

How might we make learning systems more robust, especially for under-resourced communities?

Formal education institutions have been disrupted the world-over by COVID-19. K-12 education has been especially hard hit, but higher education has not been immune either.  Even under normal circumstances, equity and access to quality education is a challenge. A parent’s ability to help their child is predetermined by access to data, technology, and know-how. As educators and parents scramble to figure out how to continue educating their children during stay-at-home orders, we've seen heroic efforts by education systems of all kinds to ensure that children and their families are safe, fed, and learning. For example, South Africa moved educational resources and lessons to radio and television, which is accessible to more families than computers or reliable internet. What creative ways can we engage children at home, regardless of their socioeconomic background?

While we have been forced to adapt, create, or compile resources to make remote learning immediately possible, we also need to examine how we might prepare for this “New Normal” for a longer term. How might we create systems and processes that ensure a consistent availability of real resources and ideas in the education system? If something like this pandemic happens again, what will be our contingency plans and resources? How might we ensure continued learning even for some of our most marginalized communities? Perhaps these ideas will trigger a macro shift in how we support remote, rural and specialized cases of educating our students.

How might we support individuals or businesses who face economic hardship?

How might we ensure wellbeing, mental health, and authentic human interactions while physically isolated from one another?

How might we protect and care for the most vulnerable among us?
